Coronet with overlay, swirlback

Description

An old Division I white swirlback decorated with blue overlay. You can see in the valley where the black glass meets with white that the coronet was added while the glass was hot. If the black piece was a separate piece glued on later, the contact line where the pieces meet would have been straight.

Background/Story

An old (Division I) hand-made white button decorated with blue-color overlay with a swirl on the back side where the shank is attached. Note the naturally curved edge of the black glass in the valley of the mold, indicating that the black “coronet” was added while the glass was still hot. The contact line where the pieces meet would have been straight if the black piece was a separate piece glued on later.
