English Enamel, Late 18C, Shepherd
Background/Story
English, Late 18th Century. Â “The maker of these exquisite buttons mimicked the art of French porcelain manufacturers of the period by choosing favorite bucolic themes and bordering them with the strong rose-pink color known as “roze.” This color was so closely linked to the eighteenth century that it became known in the following century as “Rose Pompadour” or “Rose du Barry,” after two well-known mistresses of Louis XV.”
