Intaglio black glass swastika (cross) pattern

Background/Story

This black glass button is molded with an intaglio cross pattern/symbol known as a swastika.  As a symbol, it was associated with Nazis in the last century, but it really dates back at least 11,000 years and continues to be commonly used as a religious symbol in many major Indian (eastern) religions. The design derives its name from an ancient Sanskrit word meaning “favorable or good omen”.  The red ornamentation is made from chips of colored foil. As a pattern, this one is multi-purpose, crossing over in several pattern subclasses.  It may be used as a linear cross or a multi-armed radial tetrad. It also qualifies as a “turn-around” because, if rotated 180 degrees, the design is unchanged.
