Background/Story
“The top piece is made of clear colorless glass flashed with colored glass (typically red, but blue, green, and even white, have been found), which we now know is really a thin sheet overlay. This clear glass top piece, with its added color, is cemented onto the base with a thin piece of gold leaf sandwiched in between, giving the flashed top a reflective nature, revealing both the added color of the glass flashing and the gold of the underlying leaf. ”
