Coat of arms of Denmark, Lesser

Description

This button shows Denmark’s “lesser” coat of arms—the simpler, everyday version used for the nation and many official purposes.

Read the January 2026 issue of Button Aerogramme featuring the (Greater) Royal Coat of Arms button and the Copenhagen coat of arms button that came on the same card. The Daisy button story, honoring Her Majesty Queen Margrethe, is also available in the WRBA Aerogramme archive.

Background/Story

The button features the Lesser (state) version of the coat of arms of Denmark with three crowned lions and nine hearts, without the extra “full dress” elements you might see on the greater royal arms (such as supporters, a mantle, or a more complex shield). Backmark of crown over Md.

This button was mounted on a 9″ × 12″ card that once belonged to Mary H. Gale of Piedmont, California. The card was decorated with white embossed paper showing the coat of arms below, which matches the button design.
