Background/Story

Copper on wood, back marked “RVB 1976”.

This button was identified by Inge Borland, Washington State Button Society’s bulletin editor as attributed to Ralph Briggs who made buttons in the 1970-1990s. Briggs buttons are hand-tooled copper and ironwood.

Ironwood is a common name for a large number of woods that have a reputation for hardness.  –Wikipedia: Ironwood (disambiguation)

His later 1990s buttons are of a different lighter wood that is stained dark to look like ironwood. He made custom [order] designs besides creating his own designs – typically images related to the Southwestern US. (Just Buttons Oct 1975 p.3, and advert Just Buttons Sept 1975 p 319)
