Little Teddy, why so blue?

Description

Back marked J & J for Jane Leslie and Joanne Wyman, co-editors of the Massachusetts State Button Bulletin when this button was made in 1989-1990. Jane Leslie had the idea, and Joanne alternated writing the poems. Original artwork was by Joanne’s husband Kevin Wyman. See plate 24, #9 & #10 of “A Reference Book on Studio Button Makers” by Jane S. Leslie.

Background/Story

Barb Johnson discovered, preserved, and shared both this button and its accompanying story by jane Leslie and Joanne Wyman, illustrated by Kevin Wyman.

WSBS’s “Charlie’s Angels”—a band of four notoriously glamorous button collectors famous for their yellow vests festooned with buttons—fondly recall the teddy bear sensation that once swept through their local clubs.

Back mark of J&J is attributed to Jane Leslie and Joanne Wyman, who were instrumental in starting the North East Regional Button Association (NERBA). We’d love for you to share other J&J buttons to link from this button.

This button is featured in the March 2025 issue of the Button Aerogramme.
