This button was the Idaho State Button Society’s 2022 Favor Button, handmade by Janet Koda.
It’s a rebus. Rebus is a puzzle device that combines the use of illustrated pictures with individual letters to depict words or phrases. (Wikipedia).
It was a collaboration of the Garnet button club members for the idea. Bees were popular and was on everyone’s mind. We wanted to tie it in with our collection of fans. That is how the idea developed. I volunteered to make a prototype and we all were involved in the tweeking. Although I am a crazy quilt maker, lately I’ve been making felted wool appliqué quilts with embroidery embellishments. That is why the button is felted wool and appliqué with cotton bullion stitch embroidery accented with a tassel, a shirt button and a “garnet” bead.
