Threadback and a Spider
Background/Story
Threadback is a type of old button that spans threads across its back, instead of a shank, for sewing onto the garment. A seamstress would run a needle through the back of the button to attach the button. The threads holding the button could become fragile over time, and when the treads are broken, the button would fall off.
When displaying such buttons, a collector may use a “spider” — an additional wireframe to save the original threads from further damage.
