Background/Story
This button is a less common design – more symmetric and arabesque, unlike the typical Caucasian design of sinuous, asymmetric vegetal motifs. It is reminiscent of the enameled peasant silver buttons of Multan in Pakistan.
Islamic aniconic design embodies timeless beauty through intricate geometric patterns, arabesques, and calligraphy, reflecting harmony and divine infinity. These designs often adorn mosques, manuscripts, and ceramics, emphasizing symmetry and balance. Complex tessellations and interwoven motifs evoke a sense of awe and transcendence, guiding the viewer toward contemplation of the infinite. Rooted in mathematics and spirituality, the absence of figurative representation allows focus on the abstract expression of divine unity and order.
